Preparing for retirement without a regular salary
AmanaFi team · Updated · 1 min read
With no employer paying in for you, retirement is built through your own regular saving. The earlier you start, even small, the lighter the monthly effort.
Set an order of magnitude
Estimate the monthly income you will need in retirement, excluding rent if you own your home. Multiply by twelve for the yearly need: that is the long-term goal, to adjust over the years.
Building on irregular income
When income varies, index the effort to income rather than a fixed sum.
- Pay a percentage of each receipt rather than a fixed amount.
- Use good months to reinforce.
- Keep a minimum transfer even in lean months.
Do not put all your eggs in one basket
Combine available savings, any self-employed social cover, real assets such as a home, and continuing training to keep earning capacity. Check each product's compliance with your values before placing savings in it.
Frequently asked
When should I start preparing for retirement?
As early as possible, because time reduces the monthly effort needed. Even at 40 or 50, starting beats waiting for a perfect situation.
