Setting aside zakat every month: a method with no cash shock

AmanaFi team · Updated · 1 min read

Provisioning zakat means estimating its yearly amount and setting a twelfth aside each month. On the due date, the sum is ready, and you do not have to empty your savings at once.

Estimate the amount

Take your current zakatable savings, multiply by 2.5% and add a margin if you expect to save more during the year. For 60,000 DH, the estimate is 1,500 DH, or 125 DH a month. Indicative figures.

Set it aside

Open a small account or a dedicated category, and transfer the twelfth every month on payday.

  • Monthly amount = estimated zakat ÷ 12.
  • A separate "Zakat" account or project.
  • Re-estimate once a year on the due date.

On the due date

Recalculate the exact zakat on your date. If the provision is higher, keep the surplus for next year; if lower, top it up. A monthly provision does not replace the exact calculation, it prepares it.
