The 24-hour rule: a simple reflex before any unplanned purchase
AmanaFi team · Updated · 1 min read
The 24-hour rule means never buying an unplanned item immediately. If the wish remains the next day, the purchase is probably considered; if not, you saved money and avoided a regret.
How to apply it
Adapt the delay to the value of the purchase.
- Small purchase: wait one night.
- Medium purchase: wait a week.
- Big purchase: wait 30 days and express it as a monthly saving.
Use the waiting list
Note the item and date in a wish list. At the end of the delay, reread: do you still need it? Can you pay for it without touching your savings or projects? Many wants disappear by themselves.
When the purchase is truly needed
For a real need, check the real cost, compare prices and look at the effect on your money left to live on. A purchase simulator can show what it changes for your other projects before you decide.
Frequently asked
What if the product is on limited promotion?
If you had not planned the purchase, the promotion is only a reason to buy faster. Better to let it go than pay for a passing wish.
