Choosing a halal investment fund: five questions to ask
AmanaFi team · Updated · 1 min read
A halal fund pools several savers' money and invests it by compliance criteria. Before choosing, five simple questions let you compare beyond the promise of return.
Five questions
Ask for the answers in writing.
- Which board validates compliance and by what criteria?
- What does the fund hold: shares, sukuk, property, gold?
- What entry, management and exit fees?
- What level of risk and recommended horizon?
- How is purification of non-compliant income handled?
Understanding fees
Annual fees look small but weigh over the long term. Compare the total cost over ten years between two funds, not only the past return displayed.
Do not rely on the past
Good past performance is not a promise. A fund can gain or lose; invest only what you will not need for several years, after building an emergency fund. AmanaFi does not give personalised advice: consult a licensed professional.
Frequently asked
Is a halal fund less risky than another?
Not necessarily. Religious compliance does not change the level of risk, which depends on the assets and management.
